History: What do you get when you cross Spearmint and Watermint? Peppermint! There are many varieties of mint, and they naturally and easily cross-pollinate with each other. Peppermint is now classified as a hybrid. It was propagated before the 17th century in England and now cultivated worldwide. It has also been widely used in personal hygiene products including aftershave and toothpaste.
